Inlet air fogging systems using Cat Pumps are applied in power generation plants worldwide for direct turbine inlet cooling. These systems use demineralized water to create a fog of very small water droplets by means of atomizing nozzles, generally operating at 2,000 - 3,000 psi (138 - 207 bar) pressure. The fog provides evaporative cooling when it evaporates in the air inlet duct of the gas turbine.

High-pressure ultra-pure deionized (DI) water is pumped through high-pressure atomizing nozzles placed in the gas turbine air intake. The nozzles create a fine mist that immediately evaporates – also called flash evaporation – cooling the incoming air. (Evaporation is a cooling process). The cooler air increases the mass airflow to improve gas turbine efficiency. These systems are the most economical, efficient choice for gas turbine inlet fogging.

Inlet air fogging system applications use ultra-pure demineralized water as pure as 18.2 megohms to avoid damage to the internal turbine components. This aggressive water property creates a harsh environment for the pump and pumping accessories.

Cat Pumps has worked closely with equipment manufacturers and service personnel at fogging sites to develop the longest-lasting pumps and accessories in the industry. This dedication to quality makes Cat Pumps the most specified brand in gas turbine inlet fogging applications worldwide.

With field-proven dependability in applications around the globe, Cat Pumps provides the best high-pressure pump and systems for gas turbine inlet fogging applications.
