Dewatered sludge pumps are used to transfer the sludge from dewatering equipment to disposal site or truck loading location. Depending on the distance of the pipe, the dewatered sludge pumps can operate up to 1,100 psi. Dewatered sludge has low lubricity resulting in a high-pressure drop through the transfer pipe. To increase the lubricity, water is injected to coat the inside of the pipe with water to help the sludge “slip” through the pipe.

Slip Pumps (also referred to as Slip Injection Pumps and Dosing Pumps for Slip Injection) are used to inject the water into the pipe. Typically the slip pumps will run 1 – 3 gpm, and 300 to 1100 psi, depending on the location and pipe length. The slip pump pressure is determined by the dewatered sludge pumping system in that the slip pump needs enough pressure to overcome system pressure. For example, in a sludge pump system running at 900 psi the slip pump would run around 950 psi, enough pressure to overcome line pressure and inject into the pipe.

Locations utilizing dewatered sludge pumping systems can run continuously. With continuous operation the slip pump needs to be able to run for thousands of hours before servicing. That’s why plant managers specify Cat Pumps for slip pump systems. Cat Pumps long interval time between servicing ensures the dewatered sludge pump systems keeps running.

With field-proven dependability in applications around the globe, Cat Pumps provides the best high-pressure pumps and systems for slip pump systems.
